How plasticizers affect PVC hardness and mechanics

A plasticizer is one of the components influencing hardness and flexibility in flexible PVC. Its loading is not the only variable: resin, filler, stabilizer, mixing and processing also matter. Comparing two formulations at the same Shore hardness answers a different question from comparing them at the same dosage.
Initial and aged results
Report hardness with specimen thickness and conditioning time. Use the same methods for tensile strength, elongation and tear tests. Track property changes after heat ageing or contact exposure separately. When changing plasticizer, retain a reference formulation and determine the dosage needed to meet the target through controlled trials.
