TDS, SDS and CoA: reading plasticizer quality documents

A technical data sheet, safety data sheet and batch certificate answer different questions about a plasticizer. Reading them together creates a clearer decision record for selection and incoming quality control.

What does the TDS establish?

A technical data sheet provides the product description, properties, methods and manufacturer application information. A typical value is not the same as an agreed sales specification. Confirm which limits govern purchasing acceptance. Do not compare density or viscosity results without matching temperature and units.

For example, viscosity measured at 20°C is not directly equivalent to a result at another temperature. The measurement method matters too. If different methods were used for the same property, clarify comparison conditions with the supplier and laboratory. Similar numbers do not establish method equivalence.

An SDS is not a performance certificate

A safety data sheet communicates hazards, safe handling and relevant protective information. Check product and supplier identification, revision date, handling and storage, and exposure-control sections. Request the appropriate version for the destination country and language. An available SDS does not establish your formulation's mechanical performance or finished-product compliance.

Does the CoA match the delivered batch?

The product code and batch number on the certificate of analysis should match the delivery. Compare measured results with the agreed specification. A statement of conformity is insufficient without knowing the applicable limit and method. Request clarification for missing critical results rather than treating blank fields as a pass.

  • Match product and batch details across packaging, delivery documents and the CoA.
  • Record document revisions and delivery dates.
  • Align units, temperatures, methods and limits for critical properties.
  • Investigate doubtful results under the approved incoming quality procedure.

Prepare a useful technical request

For a product such as Versafleks DOP or Inafleks DINP, request current TDS and SDS documents together with the batch analysis certificate. Include the application, target properties and current quality-control method. File documents under the same product code; a similarly named grade's documentation is not an automatic substitute.

Versafleks DOP — DOP / DEHP PVC plasticizer

Check current requirements for the destination country and finished-product category before selecting DOP / DEHP. Processing performance does not establish permitted use or product compliance. Compare alternative plasticizers for formulation cost, hardness and migration under identical test conditions.

Inafleks DINP — DINP PVC plasticizer

Select DINP against hardness, mechanical performance, volatility and destination-market requirements. Check permitted use for sensitive application categories using current documentation. Compare it with DOTP or DOP using the same PVC resin and test conditions.
