PVC stabilizer selection: processing and lubrication balance
PVC stabilizer selection involves more than one heat-stability value. Lubrication balance and production conditions help determine the appropriate grade; different stabilizer families are not direct equivalents.

Separate product family from market suitability
Within the Plastay portfolio, Assafe is a calcium-zinc stabilizer series and Asmix is lead-based. They should not be treated as members of the same chemical family. For lead-containing systems in particular, current requirements for the destination market and finished application need a separate compliance assessment. This article is not a market authorization or compliance declaration.
Establish what the package contains
A commercial stabilizer name does not identify the type and amount of lubricants in the package. Request the intended application, recommended dosage range, physical form and supplementary lubrication needs. If the package already includes lubricants, retaining every lubricant from the previous formulation at its old dosage may be inappropriate. Confirm changes through controlled trials.
What should production records capture?
- Current, torque or pressure trends at consistent formulation and settings.
- Surface gloss, lines and deposits on the die.
- Initial colour and colour changes during production.
- Dimensions, stable processing range and accepted reject levels.
- Die and screw cleaning observations at the end of the trial.
Avoid treating one observation as a definitive diagnosis. Die deposits alone do not establish that the stabilizer caused the problem. Assess filler, pigment, lubrication, temperature distribution and residence time alongside the records. Code specimens from startup, stable production and the end of the run separately.
Manage a grade change
Agree an initial formulation with the technical team supporting the new package. Compare reference and candidate runs first, then adjust one variable at a time. Good initial colour does not replace evaluation of final mechanical properties and required ageing results. Include the PVC resin, filler, existing lubrication, process and destination market when requesting samples.

ASSAFE — Calcium-zinc (Ca-Zn) PVC stabilizer
Select a Ca-Zn system together with PVC resin, filler, plasticizer, lubrication balance and processing temperature. Initial colour and long-term thermal stability are distinct targets. Validate the grade and dosage through a production trial; the Ca-Zn designation is not automatic certification of the finished product.

Review destination-market and application-category restrictions before selecting a lead-based system. Technical performance does not establish regulatory suitability. When evaluating a Ca-Zn alternative, compare thermal stability, lubrication balance and finished-product tests together.
